Bengaluru, May 28: With nearly 25,000 to 30,000 people, who had migrated in search of jobs, having returned to the districts of Northern Karnataka following the relaxation of the COVID-19 lockdown, Karnataka chief minister B S Yediyurappa has directed the officials to ensure that all the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes families must be provided with job cards.
Addressing a meeting of the State Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Development Council in Bengaluru on Thursday, the CM advised the officials to write to the Centre seeking enhancement of the mandatory 100 days’ work for a family in a year to 150 days so as to ensure that gainful employment was provided to all the deserving families.
Stressing the need for ensuring comprehensive development of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, the chief minister said a total outlay of Rs 27,699.52 crore had been provided for the developmental works of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes during the year 2020-21 with Rs 19,432.22 for the Scheduled Castes and Rs 8,267.60 crore for the Scheduled Tribes.
The meeting later approved all the action plans for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
Yediyurappa wanted the officials to take special interest in implementing all the developmental works for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in a time-bound manner so that all the disadvantaged sections of the society were benefited.
The deputy chief minister Govind M Karjol emphasized the need for proper and timely utilization of the budgetary allocations for the development of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes so that the neglected sections of society were enabled to live with dignity.
Another deputy chief minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan, law and parliamentary affairs minister J C Madhuswamy, revenue minister R Ashok, rural development and panchayat raj minister K S Eshwarappa, SC/ST Development Council member Dhuryodhana Aihole, chief secretary T M Vijaya Bhaskar, Umesh Jadhav, Ballari MP N Mahesh and Narasimha Naik, MLAs, and Social Welfare Department commissioner Kumar Nayak attended the meeting.
