Udupi, May 27: Former minister Pramod Madhwaraj condemned deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha for the ‘irresponsible’ way in which he handled the quarantining of a pregnant lady.
Pramodh tweeted to the Karnataka chief minsiter B S Yediyurappa asking him to take action against the Udupi deputy commissioner.
The tweet stated: "One pregnant lady who came from Dubai has been sent for hotel quarantine against the rules of the government and it is 15 days and she has not been sent home and even home food has been stopped to her. Take action against @dcudupi for his irresponsibility. @BSYBJP"
The tweet immediately went viral. The official handle of the deputy commissioner, Udupi @DEOUDUPI in clarifying to the tweet of Pramod Madhwaraj stated there is no question of irresponsibility. However, tests need to be conducted on more than 8,000 people who entered the district from outside the state and abroad. The lady being a primary contact of a positive COVID patient needed to be tested again.
The debate escalated as many followers joined in favour of and against Madhwaraj's statement.
Pramodh also stated, "Bold decisions can't be selective. No one can decide as he likes. They are bound by government orders and no officer can flout government orders. No officer is above the government."
The tweet is now a debatable issue among several persons including those who are in quarantine. Many people undergoing quarantine have also retweeted the tweet.
However, the twitter handle @DEOUDUPI is being shown as not valid at the moment.
Further, Udupi MLA Raghupati Bhat offering support to DC said that Madhwaraj has been in home quarantine from the past 60 days the Dc has been working day and night for people's well-being.
