Coronavirus: Maharashtra returnees take Karnataka tally to 2,405


Bengaluru, May 27 (IANS): As many as 89 per cent or 108 of the 122 new coronavirus cases reported in the past 19 hours in Karnataka were of Maharashtra returnees, even as the state's total tally rose to 2,405, an official said on Wednesday.

The new cases were reported from 5 pm on Tuesday to Wednesday noon.

The total cases with domestic travel history were 116 of these new cases.

The corona cases spiked in Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, Yadgir, Bidar, Raichur, Bengaluru Urban, Kalaburagi, Hasssan, Belagavi and Udupi.

Of the total cases, 1,596 are active, 762 patients discharged, and 45 deaths.

In the past 19 hours, 14 patients were discharged, including four in Shivamogga, three in Bidar, two each in Benglauru Urban and Kalaburagi, and one each in Chikkamagaluru, Haveri and Ballari.

A majority of the new infections are now occurring in younger people.

Of the new cases, 77 were men and 45 women, including 16 patients below the age of 10.

On Wednesday, a 69-year-old woman from Yadgir district succumbed to the virus. The Maharashtra returnee was brought dead to a designated hospital at Yadir on May 20 and had tested corona positive now, an official said.

    If people.coming from outside state are contributing to almost 90% of the cases then why are we not mandatorily quarenting them. Why are we letting them off. Even if they produced the latest medical reports what is the guarentee that from the time report came to the time they landed they have not been infected. I have never see a more irresponsible and moronic govt in the history of the world. Only country to open up when the case no.'s are increasing
