Kasargod, May 27: In a heart-wrenching incident which happened at Subbayyakatte near Paivalike in the district on Wednesday May 27 morning, two men who were trying to rescue a young bovine that had fallen into a well lost their lives.

The deceased happen to be Narayan (50) and his brother Shankar (40), from Subbayyakatte. They were trying to bring out a grown calf that had fallen into a well that does not have a protective wall.

Shankar had gone down the well with a rope to help the animal come out. He encountered difficulty in breathing there and hence slumped to the ground. At this sight, Narayan turned panicky and went down the well. He also collapsed there. The locals who heard the wails of the family members came running but could not save the lives of the brothers in spite of their best efforts.

Firemen from Uppala who rushed to the spot after being informed of the incident, brought the brothers out but both had lost their lives by then. The young cow was brought out safely by the fire personnel.

Both the deceased used to work as coolies. Their bodies were shifted to the taluk hospital at Mangalpady for post-mortem.

Sad to read, tried to help and save an animal, but paid their own life. God give strength to their family members to bear this loss. When the calf is alive and they both dead means is it a problem of oxygen there?

I remember in 5th class Science book there was a footnote in the lesson Oxygen with experiment.
It clearly mentioned lower a lit lamp(not battery powered but with real fire) down any well or tanks first, if the light gets repeatedly off then don't get down until the light stays.

This kind of safety was neither taught in our schools nor in religious places . As they were labors not exposed much to the reality. RIP Brothers

Forget about these innocent guys, People who are educated / officers / businessmen after digging bore well keep the Bore well open & children fall and die. None of the businessmen / Gram Panchayat / Zilla Parisad / related officer is not punished till today. They only succeed in getting Govt. Compensation and pay to the parents after deducting their commission.
