Mangaluru, May 9: The post-mortem report of the gaur which died on Tuesday has been made available. The doctors have certified that it died of shock with cardiac failure.
It may be recalled that two gaurs had strayed into thickly populated areas of the city on Tuesday. One of them was caught by the forest department staff. When efforts were being made to release it into the forest area near Charmadi, it had suddenly collapsed to death. Later, the government veterinary doctors at the nursery of the forest department at Charmadi had performed post-mortem. The carcass was disposed at Nidigal forest in Kalmanja village.
The doctors handed over the post-mortem report to Beltangady range forest officer on Friday. The report will reach the forest department's office here on Saturday. The report certifying the cause of death as shock and cardiac failure would be submitted to the government, said district deputy conservator of forest Dr Karikalan.
Second gaur
In the meanwhile, the forest department continued with its operation to drive the other gaur back into the forest on the third day on Friday. The gaur is currently in the 150 acres of land dotted by forest and shrubs. Efforts are on to move it towards the forest. About 50 personnel have been guarding against the gaur's march towards the city and to send it back into the forests.
As the area where it is currently stationed has abundant supply of water, green grass and shadow, the gaur is not evincing any interest to move further. The department plans to send it into the forest without catching the animal. Therefore the workers are doing their work skilfully. Range forest officer Sridhar, said that it is not possible to go into the area where the gaur is currently stationed, and therefore, a close vigil is being kept on its movements with the help of drone camera.
