Mangaluru: Doctors confirm gaur died of shock, cardiac failure

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, May 9: The post-mortem report of the gaur which died on Tuesday has been made available. The doctors have certified that it died of shock with cardiac failure.

It may be recalled that two gaurs had strayed into thickly populated areas of the city on Tuesday. One of them was caught by the forest department staff. When efforts were being made to release it into the forest area near Charmadi, it had suddenly collapsed to death. Later, the government veterinary doctors at the nursery of the forest department at Charmadi had performed post-mortem. The carcass was disposed at Nidigal forest in Kalmanja village.

The doctors handed over the post-mortem report to Beltangady range forest officer on Friday. The report will reach the forest department's office here on Saturday. The report certifying the cause of death as shock and cardiac failure would be submitted to the government, said district deputy conservator of forest Dr Karikalan.

Second gaur

In the meanwhile, the forest department continued with its operation to drive the other gaur back into the forest on the third day on Friday. The gaur is currently in the 150 acres of land dotted by forest and shrubs. Efforts are on to move it towards the forest. About 50 personnel have been guarding against the gaur's march towards the city and to send it back into the forests.

As the area where it is currently stationed has abundant supply of water, green grass and shadow, the gaur is not evincing any interest to move further. The department plans to send it into the forest without catching the animal. Therefore the workers are doing their work skilfully. Range forest officer Sridhar, said that it is not possible to go into the area where the gaur is currently stationed, and therefore, a close vigil is being kept on its movements with the help of drone camera.

Sad.Gaur died of heart attack?Of course It is always heart that doesnt work when we or animals die.I ask how it could die with heart attack when veternary doctor was present and he had given the injection to catch and release? He should have watched it,and handle it when necessary.simply catch and release?Or atleast they could have given some water or something to graze during its transport.so that it will be bit relaxed.Hope they will take care atleast in future other animals transport.Or the dosis was too high?

    Cynthi,

Bison was wearing 'Face Mask' to to COVID-19.....since they could not find a proper sized ;Face Mask' they used Sack / Goni...

Vet conducted Postmortem and declared Bison's death is due to 'Heart Attack'....all deaths can be categorized as 'Heart Attack'....including this Vets....who conducted this Postmortem ....

Now Santan Sir is saying....Reservation effect only INPUT( Admission to Schools),,,,,OUTPUT( Graduation) is General merit.... he says this applies only for Doctors....

Santhan Pass mark for Doctors and Nurses in US is 75% other fields 70%....after passing out then there is another exam for Doctors before they can practice medicine...called USMLE !!!....

Keep reservation forever who cares ??? ...You may get quality physicians and Surgeons like this Vet doctor...

Earlier, there were some comments on the reserved category veterinarian in these columns with regard to the death of gaur.
I want to state here that whether the vet or medical doctor, belongs to reserved category or general category, both are certified as competent. All are enrolled in Veterinary council of India and Indian medical council respectively. They are recognized by WHO.
There may be reservation at input (admission) level, but there is no reservation at output (exam) level.
My comment is only on vets and doctors and not on other employees.

Lazy forest officials mishandled the case. The animal could have been treated locally. Even if they dropped the gaur ti Charmadi forest he would have been the prey for other animals. Because they live un herds.

This case highlights all that is wrong with our forest department.
Distress( stress with anxiety and panic) is the cause of death.
    1. Animal should have been under constant supervision of a veterinary doctor.
    2. Measures to reduce distress could have been taken and animal should have been released to nearest forest area.

Getting a government job in forest department is lucrative. Who cares for plunder of forests?

It's face was covered with sack while shifting into the truck ....when they uncovered him who knows?.what was the necessity once it was unconscious? 😢 In the beginning only I commented not to frighten him more and chase. Let him go by its own... Our people also instead of observing the guidelines, want to roam everywhere.
