Kasargod, Apr 21: A resident of Manjeshwar died in Dubai after contracting coronavirus. The 33-year-old deceased, a resident of Miyapadavu Majir Palla here, hence became the first victim of coronavirus from Kasargod district.
He was admitted to hospital twenty days ago for fever. After medical examination and tests, it was confirmed that he had contracted the virus.
His condition became serious last week. He passed away in Dubai on Tuesday, April 21.
He was working as a driver in Dubai. He had visited his hometown eight months ago and had returned back to Dubai.
Kannur overtakes Kasargod in number of cases
The number of infected persons in the district has decreased to 27 after 27 more patients were cured on Monday, April 20. Going forward, the district has been taking giant steps towards making the district coronavirus-free.
The district had a total of 169 positive cases so far out of which 142 people were cured and had returned home. The remaining 27 people are expected to be cured in a week and likely to be discharged from the hospital.
In the past 12 days, more than 60 people were cured while only seven positive cases were detected during that period. Two weeks ago, Kasargod district had the highest number of infected persons in the state, with the current rate of cure the district has gone to second spot pushing Kannur district to the top in terms of numbers of cases.
On Monday Kannur district confirmed six more new positive cases of which five of them had returned from abroad. Currently, there are 57 confirmed positive cases in Kannur district.
In Kasargod district, the number of people under observation had come down below 5,000 as only 4754 are kept under observation. Out of them 54 are kept in isolation ward in the hospital after six more were kept under isolation on Monday. So far the district had sent swab samples of 3,150 people for lab tests of which 2,495 showed negative while 369 are yet to receive the results.
88 hotspots are announced in Kerala
As many as 88 areas are announced as hotspots in the state. The hotspots are based on the number of positive cases, primary contact and so on. The hotspots would be identified and reviewed daily on the basis of increased number of infections. The hotspots would be nullified after scrutinizing the data during the week.
Fourteen districts including Kasargod were declared as hotspots in the state, other districts are Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Mallappuram, Pallakkad, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kottayam, Pattanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kollam, and Thiruvananthapuram.
While in Kasargod district, 14 areas are declared as hotspots which are Kasargod, Kanangad municipal council, Chemnad, Chengala, Mogral Puttur, Uduma, Paivalike, Badiadka, Kodom Belur, Kumble, Ajanur, Manjeshwar and Pallikere gram panchayats.
