Mangaluru, Apr 18: In an incident that took place at Tannirbavi on the outskirts of the city, a gang of five people tried to murder a known rowdy-sheeter using knives.
Rowdy-sheeter Devaraj Poojary (28), main accused in the murder case of Shivraj that took place at Tannirbavi two years ago is the person who was attacked by gang of five people. It is confirmed that this was an attempt to take revenge for the murder of Shivraj.
It is said that Naveen, Sunil and his friends barged into Devaraj's house on Friday, April 17 around 8:30 pm. Naveen and Sunil are known to Devaraj.

Devaraj wailed loudly when the gang tried to stab him and escaped from the assault. It is said by public that the assailants threatened Devaraj that they will definitely kill him. A case under crime number 11/2020, column 504, 506, 327 and joint column of 34 of IPC section is registered against the gang of assailants as per the complaint given by Devaraj in the Panambur police station.
On the early morning of January 22, 2018 local killers of Tannirbavi had killed Shivraj, brother of rowdy-sheeter Bharatesh due to mistaken identity as he was sleeping with head covered with hood on the terrace of his house. Devaraj Poojary, of Tannirbavi Ganeshkatte was the main accused. He had come out on bail recently.
Devaraj was standing outside his house on the evening of Friday, April 17. During that time a gang consisting of Naveen alias screwdriver Naveen, Sunil alias Muthu Sunil and others attacked him suddenly. Naveen caught hold of Devaraj and tried to stab him with the knife he was carrying. However, locals rushed to the spot after hearing loud wailing of Devaraj. So the assailant escaped from the spot. But they threatened in front of public that they will not leave Devaraj. Sohan, a local resident had given his scooter to this gang.
Rowdy-sheeter Devaraj, who was kicked and beaten by the gang, is admitted to a hospital. With this the rival gangs have started to fight again in Tannirbavi region. This has disrupted the peace of local residents.
