Mangaluru, Apr 17: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, chaired a meeting of MP, MLAs and officials relating to measures undertaken to control spread of coronavirus infection. The meeting was held at the office of the deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district on Friday April 17.

The meeting discussed measures necessary to regulate spread of coronavirus. Also discussed was about the situation of coronavirus-affected persons found in the district so far. The district administration and the medical team expressed the readiness to face the challenges posed by coronavirus.

So far the district has witnessed 12 coronavirus positive cases out of which nine have been fully cured. Throat swabs of three more have been sent for testing. Out of them, negative report in one case has been received, and after the receipt of second negative report, the person will be discharged. If all the three reports tomorrow are negative, they will be discharged, said district health officer Ramachanda Bairy.

On the issue of converting district Wenlock Hospital into corona hospital and shifting of patients to private hospital and rejection of treatment to patients referred to private hospital by the government hospital, it was alleged that no treatment is being provided to poor people at government rates. There have been several complaints about poor people not getting proper treatment in private hospitals. The MLAs expressed dissatisfaction about the district administration and health department on this issue.

Man tests positive

A 39-year-old man from Uppinangady who had come from Delhi, had been quarantined for 14 days on April 1. His first test conducted on April 2 proved to be negative. During the tests on second sample sent on April 13, the result showed that he has coronavirus infection. He happens to be the 13th patient of the district. Nine have already been cured and sent home. They are under home quarantine now, and they are under close observation, a release from the office of the deputy commissioner here said.

MP Nalin clarifies on fishing in district

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel gave instructions to the fisheries department at the meeting. As per the earlier orders of the state government traditional fishing has started all over the district of Dakshina Kannada. In the midst of this, vehicles carrying fish from outstation states are also entering the city and selling fish. It is accused that these outstation vehicles are selling fish on road sides in the city as Bunder fishing port is closed due to lockdown.

Nearly 29 trucks carrying fish from other states have entered the city. Arrangement to sell the fish for trucks arriving from Tamil Nadu is done at Thokkottu grounds. Those arriving from Udupi district are allowed to sell fish only at Suratkal gronunds. Only retail selling is done.

This case is curious. The man came from Delhi and quarantined for 14 days till April 14. How did he come from Delhi during lockdown? Did he walk? When they are not allowing an old man who happened to have dementia to drive his car, this man came from Delhi during lockdown. The authorities should clarify. Are they telling us the truth about the infections?. Are they conducting enough tests? What are the fever clinics?

So we ( DK District) will remain HOT SPOT for another 28 days provided no more new detection, if any new incident reported then add another 4 weeks from that and so on....

How long this is going to take? My humble request to our district administration and elected representatives is to seal the clusters reporting such cases hence forth and allow other areas, taluks within the district to function.

Enforcing entire lock down will create more problems that might be even severe than the COVID19. Discussion time is over, its time to take proactive action.

All these people are so smart they always think about 'corona'' not corona virus or covid 19. No harm in getting corona (crown). So if you keep distance no body can snatch the crown.(corona).

I fail to see what the connection is between a press conference of the DK administration and the Congress MP.

Whatever was suggested by Mr Rahul was not funny, for you to try and make jokes.

I'm sure our central government will listen to everyones suggestions, irrespective of the political positions, and implement whatever is feasible. It's in all our interests to overcome this pandemic, correct?

Yes. They are all carona resistant people. Carona cannot enter their body as they are not afraid of carona. Jo dar Gaya vo Mar Gaya. Only normal people who wait in queue for food only get carona.

As there are false positives and false negatives in the test it is better to keep all those who have visited hotspots in quarantine for atleast one month. It has also to be investigated how he crossed state borders .The local contacts should also be isolated to prevent a second wave in the district.
