Bengaluru, Apr 13: Strapped for funds, the State Government has decided to utilize the Rs 1000 crore funds available with the Rajiv Gandhi Health University at Ramanagaram for upgrading the hospitals of all government medical colleges.

This decision was taken at a high-level meeting held by the Chief Minister along with his cabinet colleagues, Chief Secretary and senior officials of various government departments.

The meeting also discussed the possible situation of the State after the lifting of the lockdown clamped all over Karnataka along with rest of the country following the Corona Virus (COVID 19) pandemic outbreak.

One of the key decision was to continue the free distribution of one litre of Nandini milk per family in the slum areas for one more week on account of the Corona Virus lockdown situation.

The Chief Minister said the State Government will take steps on regularization of all unauthorized constructions, which was presently pending before the High Court and the Supreme Court, soon after a decision was announced.

In addition, the State Government was in favour of auctioning 12,000 corner sites lying vacant in different parts of the city, which would also help in mobilizing funds.

The meeting also discussed and decided to take steps on holding public auction of corner sites in all major cities and urban development authorities.

The meeting discussed Karnataka’s financial situation, especially the shortfall in the mobilization of resources in the wake of COVID 19 outbreak, as all sectors of economy and industries were severely affected.

Taking stock of the situation arising out of the non-payment of arrears by sugar factories to the farmers in as many as 112 districts, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa appealed to the sugar factory owners to clear the pending payments to the tune of Rs 2,834 crore to the sugarcane growers.

The decided to amend the law governing grant of permission to allow auction or allotment of non-allotted sites in private and cooperative housing societies as these will ensure that the hundreds of housing cooperative societies would get early approval from the government.

Yediyurappa announced that the State Government has released Rs 45 crore as compensation to farmers of Raichur and Koppal districts affected by the recent hailstorm havoc based on the reports of the deputy commissioners of the two districts.

Earlier in the morning, the Chief Minister witnessed the combined dashboard pertaining to COVID-19 at his home office, Krishna.

Deputy Chief Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan, Revenue Minister R Ashok, Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai and Chief Secretary T M Vijay Bhaskar were present on the occasion.
