Udupi, Feb 14: Malathi Kamath (68), who was living alone in her home at Nittur Vishnumurthy Nagar near here, stands murdered. Cash and ornaments belonging to her were robbed. The murder came to light on Thursday February 13 morning.
The woman was smothered to death with a pillow when she was asleep on the night of February 12. Cash, gold ornaments found on her body and the ornaments inside an almirah, were found missing. Actual quantum of gold and cash which were robbed in the incident could not be ascertained immediately.
Malathi Kamath has left behind three daughters, all of whom are married, and live in distant places. Malathi was leading a lonely life since the last some years. A few days back, she had started the work of repairing her house. The roof of the house had been removed for repairs. The robbers seem to have taken advantage of the open roof and entered the woman's house, as they knew that she was alone.
A case has been registered in this connection in the town police station. So far, no clues about the accused could be collected, the police said.
