Mangalore, Jul 4: On Friday July 3, the Kananady police filed a 'B' report in the court, expressing the opinion that the case against the fire-brand former union minister Renuka Chowdhury suffered from lack of evidence to be pursued.
Former City Corporation mayor Ganesh Hosabettui had registered a complaint in the third JMFC court here on February 21, after the then union minister Chowdhury failed to respond to a legal notice issued to her relating to her 'talibanization' remark against the city and its citizens. The remark had come from Renuka Chowdhury relating the pub attack incident. The case was filed under sections 153(a), (b) and 505 of the Criminal Procedure Code. After hearing the arguments put forth by P P Hegde, advocate for the complainants, the court had asked the Kananady policemen to register a case against Chowdhury and file a report thereof within a month.
The policemen had since sought three extensions, during which the court had objected to the practice of seeking extensions without achieving any progress.
