Mangaluru, Sep 21: Carmel School observed ‘Swachh Day’ on September 17. The students of class IX and faculty of the institute took part in the cleanliness drive at Thota Bengre with great zest and fervour.
The programme initiated with a prayer song then continued with welcome note by Ashwitha who greeted the dignitaries through her sweet flowing words. ‘Nukkad Natak’ on environmental issues was played by the students, the ultimate goal being to transform individual actions and lifestyles to be more environmentally friendly. Wearing gloves, students and faculty members, collected plastic cups, bottles and others that were found littered around the place.
On this occasion Mohan Puthran, president of Mahajanasabha Bengre, Sanjay Suvarna, president of Vidhyarthi Sangha, Chethan, Meera K Karkera, corporator of Bengre also joined the cleaning drive. The dignitaries motivated the people regarding spotlessness and making the place polythene free and also stressed the need of self-hygiene, community hygiene and cleanliness.
The two hour clean up event stimulated the students to care about their environment and involve them in community service while instilling good habits and stewardship. Thus, the earnest and energetic participation of the students lined up to the mission of cleanliness drive.
