Buxar, Apr 20: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, addressing a spirited public rally in Bihar’s Buxar on Sunday, launched a sharp offensive against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, accusing both of undermining democracy and public trust.
Kharge alleged that the Modi-led BJP government was misusing Central agencies, particularly the Enforcement Directorate (ED), to target and intimidate opposition leaders. “You may use the ED to scare us, but let me remind you, Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi do not bow to your threats,” he thundered.

Challenging the BJP’s record over the past decade, Kharge asked, “What original contribution has the BJP made in 11 years? Can Modi ji name even one institution built with a national vision?” He contrasted this with the Congress party’s legacy, highlighting institutions like AIIMS, IITs, IIMs, CBI, and even the ED itself, which he credited to the vision of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
Kharge also showcased a video of PM Modi’s 2014 campaign promises on an iPad before the crowd. He reminded voters of key unfulfilled assurances — the return of black money, the promise of Rs 15 lac in every Indian’s bank account, the creation of two crore jobs annually, and the long-pending special status and Rs 1.25 lac crore package for Bihar.
“None of these promises were fulfilled. Modi only talks big but delivers little,” Kharge said, urging the people of Bihar to demand answers.
Turning his attention to Nitish Kumar, Kharge dubbed him a “paltimar” (political turncoat) for repeatedly shifting alliances to retain power. “Nitish Kumar has no ideology — just the hunger to remain in power. If you reject him, the BJP will collapse on its own,” he asserted.
Calling for unity against divisive politics, Kharge appealed to voters to support the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) in the upcoming elections, stating that “restoring democracy and protecting the Constitution” is the need of the hour.
