Mumbai, Apr 19: Bollywood actress Urvashi Rautela has issued a clarification through her team after facing criticism over her recent remark about a temple allegedly built in her name near Badrinath Dham in Uttarakhand. The statement, which drew sharp reactions from locals and priests, led her team to urge the public to “listen to the video properly before reacting.”
In an interview, Urvashi had reportedly mentioned that there is an "Urvashi Temple" near the sacred pilgrimage site of Badrinath, sparking widespread debate. Some interpreted the comment to mean that she was claiming people worship her there, a suggestion that did not go down well with religious followers.
Her team, in a statement shared with media, said, “Urvashi Rautela said that there is a temple in her name in Uttarakhand, not that it is Urvashi Rautela’s temple. Unfortunately, many people misunderstood her statement by connecting the term ‘Urvashi’ directly with the actress. We request everyone to listen to the video carefully.”
They further clarified that Urvashi, during her time at Delhi University, was once referred to as ‘Damdami Mai’—a nickname once popularly used for female icons during college festivals. “There is even a news article about this. It’s unfortunate that people are making confusing and derogatory remarks without verifying facts,” the statement read.
The team warned that legal action may be taken against those misrepresenting the actress’s comments and appealed to the public to refrain from spreading misinformation. “Before making baseless allegations or disrespectful remarks against anyone, facts must be verified. Respect and understanding are key to maintaining social harmony.”
The statement comes in the wake of rising demands from local devotees and temple priests for government intervention, as many considered Urvashi’s comments to be hurtful to religious sentiments. Her team hopes the clarification will bring an end to the ongoing controversy.
