Bantwal, Jul 3: Birds are a part of nature. However, they are disappearing day by day. Birds struggle for their lives due to destruction of trees and forests and migrate without shelter.

In the circumstances, Mudaibettu, near Mavinakatte, Baidyaru, Bantwal resident Nithyananda Shetty, in his two and half acre land, has tried to attract migrating birds so that those may remain in his land.

Nithyananda Shetty in Gurukula institute held a programme, ‘Alivu Ulivu’, on extinction and survival of bird species explaining the fostering of birds in their surroundings. Assistant Ramya and Nithayananda Shetty through demonstrations explained that birds respond to the changes in weather, health and sicknesses in the environment and are considered scientists as said by Poornachandra Thejaswi. They also explained how food and water can be fed to the birds and nests can be created by pots.

Birds have a relationship with human beings. Plants and trees that give fruits to birds should be planted during rainy season. Water should be kept during summer. In this way we should be their saviours, he said.

Discussions with children about protecting birds in various seasons, treatment for birds and how to prevent death of birds by Wi-Fi network were held.
