Mangaluru, Apr 14: The 127th birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar, architect of Indian Constitution was observed at St Aloysius BEd College on April 14. The commemoration began with the lighting of the lamp by the staff and the members of the students’ council. Benica and team offered prayers for the nation, politicians, law makers and teachers.
Dr Farita Viegas, principal, in her speech highlighted the remarkable efforts and contributions made by Dr B R Ambedkar in protecting social rights of women, outlawing all forms of discrimination, abolition of untouchability, reservation system for the SC and the ST, social justice, economic equality, political freedom and fraternity. She threw light on the need and importance of commemorating the birth of Ambedkar in today’s context and urged the trainees to inculcate the values enshrined in the preamble of the Constitution to create a peaceful society.
Esther and Britto, cultural secretaries made a powerpoint presentation of highlighting the various phases of Ambedkar life and his efforts in framing Constitution. Amith D’Souza, president, students’ council and Royal Saldanha secretary, English methodology, conducted a quiz competition on Ambedkar’s life and Constitutional provisions. The winners were acknowledged with prizes.
Thejaswi welcomed the gathering. Glanet D’Souza delivered the vote of thanks. Saritha compered the programme. Sandhya, lecturer, organized the event. The national anthem was sung at the end of the programme.
