Puttur, Jun 29: Puttur rural police have arrested 5 BJP leaders for attacking cattle transporters on Wednesday June 27 afternoon.
The arrested have been identified as Bettampady Gram Panchayat vice-president Prakash Bailady, Puddottu Jagannath Rai, Durgaprasad, Sandeep and Prasad. The incident occurred at Mittadka in Bettampady village where they manhandled 4 persons who were transporting cattle in a truck.
Meanwhile in a desperate attempt other BJP men tried to release their arrested leaders from the police station. Several BJP men waited at Sampya police station where the BJP leaders were held in lock up till 10 pm, on Wednesday Jun 27. FIR has been filed against those arrested who were produced in the court on Thursday June 28, sources said.
A few days ago, Beltangady police had seized the truck transporting the buffalos illegally,which was later shifted to Savanur Gokulashram. Meanwhile, the court ordered the release of these buffalos to D A Usman of Bangady in Beltangady.
Moreover, some BJP leaders attacked those who tried to transport them to an abattoir in Kerala. Ibrahim C K, Ibrahim K, Hakim and Hansa Kunhi of Hosadurga in Kasaragod, were being handed over to Puttur rural police. However, the police have arrested BJP leaders. A case has also been registered against those transporting cattle.
