Mangaluru, Apr 4: Union minister of state for petroleum and natural gas Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday April 4 termed Mangaluru the 'new industrial capital of southern India' and said that the work on ISPRL (Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves Limited) project for crude oil storage in Mangaluru will be completed within a year.

Addressing media persons at the district BJP office during his visit to the city after attending the party's national executive meet in Bengaluru, Pradhan said, "Being a minister for petroleum and natural gas, I have a relationship with Mangaluru which houses MRPL, one of the biggest refineries of the country. Another important institution of the ministry - the strategic reservoir ISPRL with a capacity of 2.5 million tonne is also in Mangaluru. It will start functioning within a year."

He further said, "Considering the fall in oil prices in the world market, the union government decided to fill the strategic reservoirs at an early stage. The important points of strategic reservoirs are Vishakapatnam, Mangaluru, and Padur. This financial year we are trying to fill these strategic reservoirs as part of our major vision. Tomorrow I will be visiting MRPL and then going to Hubballi.

"Mangaluru is the new industrial capital of southern India and a major anchor of industrialization. I will be spending a day here, meeting with different people and stake holders and I hope for everyone's cooperation to create new developmental path. It is my first visit to MRPL, I will try to understand the local dynamics," he said.

On the programmes initiated by Modi-led government, he said, "It is 10 months since we formed the goverment and already a lot of pro-poor initiatives have been taken to create jobs and boost employment. 'Make in India' programme will facilitate the younger generation of this country to fulfill their dreams by generating employment. Simultaneously, the government has initiated 'Skill India' programme. These two programmes are futuristic, and certainly Mangaluru will benefit from both."

To a question on allegations of air pollution by MRPL, he said, "Yes, the issue has come to my notice. Tomorrow (Sunday April 5) I will meet the locals and study the case. First I need to understand the basic issue."

On the stalled work on Gail pipeline he said, "We are pursuading the local leaders of Kerala. There seems to be some misuderstanding there."

To a question on whether BJP members are heeding to PM Narendra Modi's call for the well-off to give up subsidized LPG cylinders, "Let me request that this should not be made a party issue. The PM has given a call for the well-off section of the society to give up subsidy on LPG cylinders. Ashok Chavan has done it. I did it six months ago, and so also the finance minister (Arun Jaitely. Many chief ministers are also coming forward to do the same. Today a retired teacher called Prema Kumari in Bengaluru said that she has given up subsidized cylinders, and when I asked why, she said she has faith in Modi."

Later he addressed a meeting of BJP workers. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, chief whip of opposition and Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar and others were present.

Pradhan and Nalin Katil should first go to Baikampady Industrial area which is the oldest Industrial estate of Mangalore and personally see how many industries are closed there due to lack of proper infrastructure. Have you seen the rampant corruption in KIADB and KSFC?
First revive all those closed Industries of Baikampady and then talk of making Mangalore new industrial capital of south.

Now the real estate business is down in dumps since last one year and absolutely there are no buyers for sites or Flats. So Pradhan may be trying to prop up the sagging realty Sector with his statement of Mangaluru becoming new Industrial capital of South India. Due to moral policing and hostile local labours no one wants to set up big industry in D.K.

His specific examples like MRPL and ISPRL were in place before May 16, 2014. When it comes to post May 16, his examples such as 'lot of pro-poor initiatives' and 'Skill India' programs are rather vague. Need of the hour in petroleum ministry is to plug the leakage of documents and pass the benefit of reduced global oil prices on to the common man and not to indulge in making the rich Gujjus richer.

I fully agree with your comment. Mangaluru is becoming difficult to live. Too much industrialization, pollution and migrant problem. Of these issues, migrant problem is the worst problem because people from some holy states of India are populating Mangaluru. Along with them, they bring their rape, murder and drug culture. That's why we see too many murder and rape news in local news papers. This adds to the already tense communal atmosphere of DK. Let's say no to industrialization. It may benefit lot of people, but the city is fast going to the dogs.

suresh, Forget about honing their skills. They are already over qualified . The jobs were alredy reserved for mallus & northies . poor mangaloreans, only thing they are benefited is because of labour unrest in kerala . even otherwise all the labourers in the port trust etc are all filled by mallus . The only thing Mangaloreans are famous for is communal fanaticism , which escalated to an alarming rate after B.J.P. came to power . No sensible person will want to invest in Mangalore. Even in Bangalore , though it is our capital , we are a minority . because it is dominated by mallus, Andhragaroos, tamilians, northies etc, we are a poor minority who are declining inspite of our education. Please continue to fight amongst ourselves & destroy whatever chance our youngsters might have in securing a bright future, fools

Mr. Guru, The Shiradi Ghat stretch falls in the stretch of Mangalore-Bangalore National Highway No.75 (old No 48). It is the responsibility of the Union Government through MORT&H (Ministry of Road Transport and Highways , Govt. of India) and having its Regional Office at PWD Annexture Bldg., K.R.Circle, Bangalore. The work pertaining to this Highway No 75 is implemented under the approval by the Central Ministry, by Govt. of Karnataka, having its office at, National Highway Division, Urwa, Next to Ganesh Temple, Urwa, Mangalore, Phone No.: 0824-2450415. It is not State Subject and state budget is noy involved as you had mentioned. State Govt has to carry out the work under MORT&H instructions including the publication of Tenders for the work. I work for an office which takes the responsibility of publishing the tenders of the National Highway Division, Mangalore, in newspapers either at karnataka Level or at all India Level, as directed by the National Highway Division office at Mangalore. The payment is made by the MORT&H, Bangalore Regional office of the Central Govt. Ministry. So do not comment without knowing the matter. Jai Hind.
