Gauthami's father meets Siddaramaiah, seeks justice

Bengaluru, Apr 4 (DHNS): Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday said action would be taken in accordance with the law against K Mahesh, the attendant at Pragathi School and PU College, who is accused of shooting to death a second PU student, Gauthami, at the college hostel in Kadugodi on Tuesday night.

Siddaramaiah made the assurance to Ramesh, Gauthami’s father, who met him at his residence here on Friday. Pavagad MLA Thimmarayappa and MLC T A Saravana accompanied Ramesh to Siddaramaiah’s residence.

Ramesh, who runs a medical store at Pavagad in Tumakuru district, narrated the trauma of his family members, as he lost his only child. He urged the chief minister to ensure justice for Gauthami’s murder by taking strict action against Mahesh. Siddaramaiah told Ramesh that he understood the trauma of the family and would ensure measures to prevent such instances in future.

Speaking to reporters after meeting Siddaramaiah, Ramesh said that he sought justice from the chief minister. “Siddaramaiah told me that the police have already arrested Mahesh and are interrogating him. He promised me that action will be taken against him as per the law,” Ramesh said. Ramesh also urged the government to shut down Pragathi School and PU College, where the incident occurred.

Meanwhile, Minister for Woman and Child Development, Umashree, visited Manipal Hospital to enquire about the health of Shirisha, a first year PU student of Pragathi School and PU College, who was injured after she was shot by Mahesh.

The minister said the State government would bear the medical expenses of Shirisha who had undergone a surgery on Wednesday. Shirisha’s father B R Srinath said her condition had improved and she had been shifted from the ICU to the ward.

Umashree said a few educational institutions had failed to follow safety guidelines. She said she would discuss the matter with Primary and Secondary Education Minister Kimmane Ratnakar and urge him to act in this regard.

Mahesh a teetotaller, loner, says sister

Bengaluru, Apr 4 (DHNS) : Mahesh, the youngest of four siblings, was considered a loner by his family.“He had cut off ties with the family as every one was asking him to get married because he was getting old. But he used to avoid talks about marriage citing various reasons such as he did not earn enough to take care of a family.

He was always by himself and never interacted with anyone. He was known for minding his business without troubling anyone. Mahesh was considered to be a loner by our family members,” his elder sister Shailaja said.

Speaking to Deccan Herald on Friday, Shailaja said Mahesh had settled in the City around 10 years ago. He had studied till second PUC but had computer knowledge. He was working with Kamadhenu Travels and also for a call centre before joining as an attendant in Pragathi School and PU College in Kadugodi.

She said her brother was a teetotaller and had no vices. “It was a shock for all of us after getting to know what he was involved in the killing of student Gauthami.

“We got to know about the incident only through a news channel. We are also curious to know from where he got the gun and the motive behind the killing.”

“Soon after his arrest, the police took us to the station and questioned us for over 30 minutes and asked us about his behaviour. They also took a locked suitcase and a bag belonging to Mahesh from our house,” she said.

Asked how frequently they visited their native place near Agumbe, she said that it was about five years ago when their father passed away.

I can't understand why our CM is giving the assurance /statement in every individual criminal cases after getting wide critics in the media. He is acting as a defense lawyer in such case. Being head of govt, machinery and policy maker why he can not act uniformly in all such cases.

Why people now-a-days approach direct to CBI or Chief Minister..
What's the role of law abiding forces..
Better to curtail the same and give more power to CBI/Chief Minister..it's same like dictatorship..

Gautami's death has exposed the easy availability of country pistols and guns in the naxalite areas of Shivamogga dist and also adjacent Udupi dist.
Police should track this gun route and demolish the same. Gautami's sacrifice should not go waste.

They can stop supply of revolvers. Just because they get tax (to give bhagyas), it is not right to make pistols easily available.

CM and Hm are responsible for law and order in the state. If they can not handle it, should resign and get lost.

    Shankar,

Would you say same thing if the other party was in power and same thing happened under that government?

If you are asking for CM or HM to resign then most of all CMs and HMs all all states have to resign because such incidents happen all the time. Is it really rare that one person killing the other by gun?
