Srinagar, Apr 19: In a landmark moment for Indian cinema and the Kashmir Valley, the premiere of the Bollywood film Ground Zero was held in Srinagar, marking the first such event in the region after a long gap of 38 years.
Hosted at the Inox theatre on Friday evening, the premiere brought a wave of excitement as actor Emraan Hashmi, along with the film's cast and crew, attended the special screening. Speaking at the event, Hashmi described it as a “symbolic moment” for Kashmir, signifying the revival of the Valley's connection with mainstream cinema.

Directed by Tejas Prabha Vijay Deoskar, Ground Zero is an action thriller inspired by a real-life Border Security Force (BSF) mission. The film sees Hashmi in the role of BSF Commandant Narendra Nath Dhar, marking his first portrayal of a security force officer on the big screen. Accompanying him in the film is actress Sai Tamhankar, who essays the role of his wife.
“This premiere in Srinagar is more than just a film launch—it’s a message of inclusion and a step towards reconnecting Kashmir with India’s cinematic heartbeat,” said Hashmi. “The love and warmth of the Kashmiri people has always been overwhelming, and I’m thrilled to return here.”
The event saw the presence of film industry dignitaries, including producers Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, Dolly Sidhwani, Shibani Dandekar, and co-producer Arhan Bagati. The screening was specially hosted for BSF personnel, honouring their contribution to the nation and reflecting the spirit of the film.
Ground Zero, produced under the banner of Excel Entertainment, carries emotional and cultural resonance for the people of Kashmir, many of whom view the return of Bollywood as a harbinger of normalcy and development.
The film is set to release nationwide on April 25 and has already stirred anticipation following the release of its trailer. “We hope this premiere encourages more filmmakers to consider Kashmir not just as a shooting destination, but also a place to celebrate cinema,” said director Deoskar.
With its powerful narrative and poignant setting, Ground Zero is poised to open a new chapter for Bollywood in the Valley.
