New Delhi, Apr 19: Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk expressed his excitement on Saturday about visiting India later this year, following a significant conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Musk described the interaction as an “honour” and hinted at deeper collaboration between India and his global enterprises.
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) platform, Musk wrote, “It was an honour to speak with PM Modi. I am looking forward to visiting India later this year.”
The conversation between the two global figures focused on mutual interests, particularly in the areas of technology, innovation, and the growing scope for collaboration between India and the United States. The dialogue builds upon a previous meeting they had in Washington DC earlier this year.
Recapping the exchange, PM Modi stated, “Spoke to Elon Musk and talked about various issues, including the topics we covered during our meeting in Washington DC earlier this year. We discussed the immense potential for collaboration in the areas of technology and innovation. India remains committed to advancing our partnerships with the US in these domains.”
During his Washington visit in February, PM Modi had also praised Musk for his passion around subjects like space, electric mobility, and innovation. “Had a very good meeting with Elon Musk in Washington DC. We discussed various issues, including those he is passionate about such as space, mobility, technology and innovation,” the PM had noted, adding that he also shared India’s progress toward governance reforms.
In a lighter moment shared on social media, PM Modi posted photos from his meeting with Musk’s children, writing, “It was also a delight to meet Mr. Elon Musk’s family and to talk about a wide range of subjects!”
Musk’s upcoming India visit comes as Tesla edges closer to officially entering the Indian market—a move that could reshape the EV landscape in the country. Meanwhile, broader negotiations between India and the US are underway for a bilateral trade agreement that would support such advancements.
Adding to the momentum, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal recently met with senior executives from Musk’s Starlink project in Delhi. “Met a delegation from Starlink, comprising Vice President Chad Gibbs & Senior Director, Ryan Goodnight. Discussions covered Starlink’s cutting-edge technology platform, their existing partnerships & future investment plans in India,” Goyal posted on X.
Musk’s potential entry into India, both through Tesla and Starlink, signals a new chapter in Indo-US technological and industrial cooperation.
