Udupi: 2 unidentified individuals steal 10 kg of fish worth Rs 5,000, rope worth Rs 4,000 in Malpe

Udupi, Apr 4: Two unidentified individuals stole 10 kilos of fish worth Rs 5000 and fishing material worth Rs 4000 in Malpe on April 4.
 
The incident came to light when complainant Subhash S Mendon (50), a resident of Kodavoor village, along with Kishore D Suvarna, noticed two unidentified individuals near the main entrance of Malpe port. The suspects were carrying a white plastic sack and walking away hurriedly, which raised suspicion.
 
Upon stopping and questioning them, the complainants checked the sack and found various fishing-related items, including white and black pamphlets, Anjal (seer fish), Sigadi, Kandige, Bondas and approximately 10 kilos of fish, and a 60-meter-long yellow fishing rope.
 
When interrogated about the source of these items, the individuals admitted to stealing them around 12.30 pm from a boat named Jasmine, owned by Thottam N Nagesh, which was docked at the port. The estimated value of the stolen fish is Rs 5,000, and the fishing rope is valued at Rs 4,000.
 
Recently, a woman was brutally assaulted at Malpe port following allegations of fish theft.
 
A case has been registered at Malpe Police Station.
