Bengaluru, Apr 4: The 17th edition of the World 10K Bengaluru, a World Athletics Gold Label race, will see an inspiring lineup of 14 women pacers leading the charge in the Open 10K category on April 27. Among them is 42-year-old debutant Shalu Dudeja, who brings with her not just experience from over 50 pacing events, but also an extraordinary story of personal triumph.
Shalu, who will lead the 58-minute bus, discovered distance running as a way to navigate through some of life’s toughest challenges — including the loss of her parents and post-pregnancy health issues. What started as a fitness routine soon transformed into a passion that changed her life.

“Running became my escape, my way to find peace amidst the pain. But it was my husband, Rohit Raj Dudeja, who truly gave me the wings to fly. He saw the strength in me when I couldn’t see it myself,” Shalu shared. “Every step I take is a tribute to my parents and a testament to my husband’s love.”
Her journey is marked not just by emotional healing but also a dramatic physical transformation — losing nearly 30 kilograms. Now, Shalu is a beacon of inspiration in her Rohini (Delhi) neighbourhood, encouraging other women, especially mothers, to embrace running and pursue their goals.
“I'm filled with gratitude and excitement,” she said. “I want to create an unforgettable experience for everyone running with me, to show them that they are capable of incredible things.”
Joining her is fellow pacer Divya Madaiah, who will be pacing the 75-minute group. Divya began her running journey with the virtual edition of the World 10K Bengaluru in 2020 and has since paced nearly 40 events. For her, the race holds a special place.
“This is the only event I look forward to every year,” she said. “I run for the joy of running, and I want women to know that this race is not just about competition, but about support and community. It’s fulfilling to lead others to the finish line.”
As the countdown to race day begins, these inspiring women pacers are all set to lead with purpose, passion, and positivity — making the 2024 edition of the World 10K Bengaluru one to remember.
