Vittal, Apr 4: In the wake of a deeply distressing incident reported from Muruva village under Vittal police station limits, members of the Manava Bandhutva Vedike have urged authorities to conduct a comprehensive and impartial investigation into the alleged sexual assault of a minor Dalit girl.

A delegation from the organisation submitted a memorandum to the sub-inspector of Police, Vittal, stressing the need for immediate action against the accused. The team also visited the residence of the survivor, offered condolences to the family, and extended financial support to assist them during the traumatic period.

According to the details shared by the organisation, the accused in the case has been identified as Mahesh Bhat. Citing the seriousness of the allegations, the delegation demanded that he be arrested without delay and legal proceedings be initiated as per the provisions of law.

Concerns have been raised regarding possible rape and a suspected abortion, which has been widely discussed in public circles. Given that the survivor is a minor and belongs to a Scheduled Caste community, the members stated that she may not be fully aware of the gravity of the assault she faced. She is currently undergoing emotional trauma and has been reluctant to interact with people around her.

The Vedike has urged the authorities to immediately conduct a medical examination to ascertain the facts and extend psychological counseling and expert therapy to the girl, who is reportedly struggling to articulate the ordeal she underwent.

In the memorandum, members also alleged that associates of the accused have been threatening those who filed the complaint. A case in this regard has also been lodged at the same police station. They demanded the immediate arrest of Harish Maniyani, another individual allegedly involved in issuing threats to the complainants.

The delegation that submitted the memorandum included Amala Ramachandra, M B Vishwanath Rai, Ramanna Pilinj, Maurice Mascarenhas, Ullas Kotian, Vijayalakshmi, Sheshappa Nekkilu, Abdul Rehman (Unique), John Kenyut, and Abdul Khader from Adarshanagara.
