Mangaluru, Jan 4: Lamp lighting and oath taking ceremony of the 23rd batch of BSc nursing and 21st batch of general nursing & midwifery students was held on January 4 at Yendurance Zone, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) Deralakatte, Mangaluru.
Lamp lighting ceremony signifies the entry of nursing students to the profession and the light symbolises the enlightenment, experience, love, care and comfort provided by nurses to their patients.
Dr Fatima D’Silva, principal, NitteUsha Institute of Nursing Sciences Deralakatte, was the chief guest. In her address, she congratulated the students for choosing the challenging yet rewarding profession. She acknowledged the hurdles they may face, but emphasised that this career would offer them immense personal and professional rewards. Dr D'Silva encouraged the students to "light a lamp of hope and comfort" for their patients while always striving to provide the best care.
Dr Habib Rahaman A A, medical superintendent and K M Sathya Devi, nursing superintendent, Yenepoya Medical College Hospital, Deralakatte, were the guests of honour and while addressing the students they emphasised the importance of providing quality care to the patients with high standards.
Dr Renita Priya D’Souza UG coordinator, Yenepoya Nursing College was present at the programme.
Dr Priya Reshma Aranha, vice-principal, Yenepoya Nursing College administered the oath to the budding nurses. The programme was presided by principal, Dr Leena K C.
In her presidential address she encouraged the students to embrace the core values of the nursing profession, take full advantage of the numerous opportunities offered by the institution and learn from everyone they come across in their professional life and strive to become competent, compassionate nurses.
Pavithra, I GNM class coordinator welcomed the gathering and Melvin Jacob, I BSc (N) class coordinator delivered the vote of thanks, while Jyothi and Shridevi compered the programme.
The dignitaries and faculty of Yenepoya Nursing College lit the lamps of 183 novice nursing students.
