Udupi, Sep 20: ISTE Student Chapter of SMVITM, Bantakal, organised a vibrant celebration of "Engineers' Day" at the institute premises on September 17, in honour of the 165th birth anniversary of one of India’s greatest visionaries, Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. The event was held in the seminar hall of the Admin Block.
The programme commenced with the traditional lamp lighting ceremony, graced by the chief guest, Engineer Yogish Chandra Dhara from AG Associates, Udupi. In his inspiring address, he paid tribute to the immense contributions of Sir MV Visvesvaraya to the nation.
He emphasised the core values that Sir Visvesvaraya embodied throughout his life — discipline, sincerity, and time management. He urged the students to adopt these qualities as guiding principles in their personal and professional lives. Concluding his speech, he advised the aspiring engineers to channel their collective efforts to achieve success and, in today’s fiercely competitive world, strive to exceed expectations and seize every opportunity.
Dr Ganesh Aithal, vice-principal of SMVITM, delivered the presidential address, where he offered insightful advice to the students. He encouraged them to focus on "learning engineering rather than merely studying it," emphasising the importance of deep understanding over rote learning.
The event began with an invocation by Chithkala, a third-year CSE student, and the proceedings were skillfully anchored by Akshatha Rao, assistant professor in the department of electronics and communication engineering.
The ceremony was attended by the heads of departments, faculty members, non-teaching staff, and students from various branches, making it a memorable and inspiring occasion for all.
