Mangaluru, Sep 17: In a consumer centered market, consumer is the king. However, a consumer needs to beware while transacting in the market. In this context, creating awareness about consumer rights and duties should be a part of the education system.
In order to implement this, the Government First Grade College, Kavoor has formed a ‘Jagrathi Consumer Club’, as a part of a number of awareness activities throughout the year. A certificate course in consumer education is also being organized for BCom and BBA students.
The certificate course was inaugurated on TUesday, September 17 by Sunanda Kumble, secretary, District Consumer Information Centre, Mangaluru with the lighting of lamp. In her inaugural address, she explained the importance of consumer education in people's life and advised the students to share their knowledge with consumers who lack consumer education. She also insisted that students should exercise their rights as consumers in their daily life. At the same time they should also understand their responsibility as consumers, she added.
Dr Therese Pereira, IQAC coordinator and convener of consumer club gave introductory insights about the certificate course. In her presidential remarks, the principal, Dr Geetha M L created awareness among the students about the different consumer issues with case studies.
Jyothi Shetty, convener of Commerce and Management Association, student secretaries M Shifan of III BBA and Vaishnavi of III BCom were present on the stage. Deepthi of III BCom compered the programme, Dhanushree of III BCom welcomed the gathering and Ummarul Khaleel of III BCom proposed a vote of thanks.
