Mangaluru, Sep 17: The Neermarga region witnessed a significant sports event organized by the Presidency Pre-University College in collaboration with the Dakshina Kannada District Pre-University education department. The district-level basketball and Taluk-level volleyball tournaments for boys and girls were held on September 12.
The event was officially inaugurated by Jayanna CD, the distinguished DDPU of Dakshina Kannada district, who commended Presidency Educational Institution for hosting such a large-scale sports meet. He noted that this was the first time the pre-university education department had witnessed an event of this size. With over 1,000 sportsmen and top teams participating, it was truly a moment of pride.
Other notable guests included Dr Sharath Kumar Shetty-head of KVG Dental College - Sullia, Arun Kumar D sub-inspector of police Vamanjoor police station and Shridhar president gram panchayat Neermarga, who were present to launch the event.
Around 57 colleges participated in the tournament, with over 90 teams competing in the event.
In the district-level basketball tournament for boys, St Aloysius PU College secured the first place, while Presidency Pre-University College took second place. In the girls' category, St Aloysius PU College won first place, and Presidency Pre-University College came second.
In the taluk-level volleyball tournament for boys, Sri Narayana Guru Pre-University College secured the first position and St Aloysius Pre-University College took second. In the girls' category, St Aloysius PU College won first place, while St Agnes Pre-University College took second.
Dr Nisar Ahmed chairman and chancellor of Presidency Group of Institutions and Presidency University, Suhael Ahmed vice chairman and Salman Ahmed, vice president of Presidency University congratulated the winning teams and wished them success.
The event was successfully organized under the guidance of Arun Devaraj assistant director of the institution, Shaila Saldanha principal, administrator Pratibha Chetan, sports coordinator Akshitha, physical education teachers Thushar, Sharath KK, and district /\taluk-level sports coordinators of the pre-university education department.
