Mangaluru, Sep 12: As part of this year’s Nature Festival celebrations, students and staff of Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru came together in a heartwarming act of generosity by collecting essential items to share with some of the most vulnerable members of the society. The initiative aimed at supporting the destitute, residents of old age homes, orphanages, children from special schools and HIV rehabilitation centres bringing smiles and hope to many, while emphasizing the core values of empathy and community care.
The event, which has become a cherished tradition of the school since its inception, witnessed the enthusiastic participation of students, parents and staff, collecting a range of useful goods including groceries, books, stationery items, hygiene products and other essentials. The collected items were then distributed to several shelter homes like Bhagini Samaj, St Antony’s Ashram, Prashanth Nivas, Home for the Poor at Maroli, White Doves Home for the destitute, Mother Theresa’s Home for the elderly, Veronica Vihar, a home for the differently abled adults, Balagraha children’s home, St Agnes Special School, Sanidhya Special School, Jeevadhaan and Sneha Sadan HIV Rehabilitation Centres etc., bringing relief and comfort to many.
The highlight of the event was the personal interaction between the students and the recipients. The students not only shared the cash and kind, but spent meaningful time engaging with the elderly and the destitutes. These interactions proved to be a deeply enriching experience for both, fostering understanding, respect, compassion and a sense of shared humanity.
The nature festivals, which focused on the harmonious relationship between humans and the environment, expanded its scope this year to include humanitarian efforts, recognizing that caring for the people around is as essential as caring for nature itself. The initiative served as a reminder that small acts of kindness can have a lasting impact, helping to create a more compassionate and connected world.
