Jeleeb Al-Shuyoukh, Mar 4: Mogaveeras Association Kuwait, affiliated to Indian embassy Kuwait, is the community welfare association of non-resident Mogaveeras, based in Kuwait.
For the 7th time MAK organised the national-level volleyball & throwball tournament under the title of “MAK Champion Trophy 2024 “on February 25. The tournament was held at ASPIRE Bilingual School, Jeleeb Al-Shuyoukh, Kuwait.
The tournament coincided with the national day of Kuwait celebration. The weather was pleasant, the participants & the MAK members were all geared up for the tournament.
The long day tournament commenced at 8 am with a grand opening ceremony headed by Suresh Salian. On behalf of MAK Management Committee Amrith Raj Suvarna & Lakshmish Salian the host for the day welcomed gathering, which was followed by Kuwait & Indian National Anthem.
The opening ceremony started off with a parade by the guest & MAK management committee. The inauguration & the beautiful opening ceremony was conceptualised by Suresh Salian.
The chief guest of the day was Reven D’souza, the founder and managing editor of 'The Times Kuwait'. The guest of honour was Dr Prabath Shetty, an orthodontist at Maidan Clinic Farwaniya.
Our next guest for the tournament was Jameel Ahmad. He is the president of KMWA Kuwait & works for EQUATE Petrochemicals Co as an IT Service Desk Lead.
The other guests for the day were Toby Vargese - activities director Indian Central School, Adel Sabieh Shadher – PRO Indian Central School, Naveen Mascharenhas - president, KCWA, Shankar Shetty -vice president Tulukoota Kuwait, Raj Bhandary- president, BPP Karnataka Kuwait, Vijay Kairangala - advisor BPP, Shrinath Prabhu-sports secretary, Tulukoota Kuwait, Lionel Mascarenhas -PRO Tulukoota Kuwait, Rajesh Hegde- welfare convenor BPP, Madhav Naik – TPI president, Yadunath Alva, former president of Buntara Sangha along with his wife Shalini Yadunath Alva, Jagadish Shanubogue, Wilson DSouza – ex president Tulukoota Kuwait along with his wife Reshma Noronha, Seema Miranda-Physical Education Teacher of Carmel School, Kuwait.
The guests conveyed their best wishes and good luck to the participating teams and organisers.
Poonam Mendon, president of MAK in her speech welcomed the gathering ,stressed the importance of playing with true sportsman spirit, She also said that sports is the only place where people from different religion and community gather. She also thanked all the teams for their support as this event is done for MAK welfare projects.
Kavitha Kidiyoor, sports secretary of MAK headed the oath taking ceremony with all the participants.
Convenor Ramesh Kidiyoor wished all teams and announced the opening of the tournament.
The president of MAK, management committee along with the chief guests inaugurated the volleyball and throwball court by serving the ball. The medals and trophies of the tournament were unveiled by guests.
The participating volleyball teams were as below:
(1) Boubyan Strikers, (2) United Bailore, (3) BPP Karnataka, (4) Tamil Tigers, (5) SAJA Group, (6) Mangalore Sports Club, (7) MKV Spikers, (8) KSAC, (9) Avengers, (10) Andra Boys.
The participating throwBall teams were as below:
(1) Sharp Shooters, (2) Power Stars, (3) Kuwait Konkans A, (4) Kuwait Konkans B, (5) Alfa, (6) Super Smashers, (7) Vaigai A, (8) Vaigai B, (9) Dragon Queens, (10) Prosports United Girls, (11) Fire Girls.
The Volleyball inaugural first round match started between Boubyan Strikers & SAJA Gulf, the first round of Throwball inaugural match was between Sharp Shooters & Pro Sports.
The teams played with full enthusiasm, and viewers enjoyed and experienced the spectacular show. As the day progressed matches kept rolling one after another.

The referees for volleyball were Alexander Mathew & Abhilash Mathew.
The referees for throwball were Ivan DSouza & Dr T Ramesh Kumar.
The scorers for throwball team were Kavitha Kidiyoor, Smitha Lakshmish, Pooja Kanchan& Dr Rani Vikyath.
The scorers for volleyball team were Pundarika Kanchan, Sanu Kunder, Prashanth , Rakshith Suvarna & Rajesh Salian.
The announcements was done by Santhosh Kunder and Siraj.
Sumptuous breakfast, lunch and snacks were provided by Annapoorna Restaurant – Salmiya.
Beautiful moments of the day were captured by the MAK photographers – Amrith Raj Suvarna & Prashanth Kunder.
Wonderful background music was scored by DJ Purander Manchi.

Winners:
The Volleyball ended with the final match between Boubyan Strikers & SAJA Gulf. After a tough battle between the two strong teams, Team Boubyan Strikers bagged the winner’s trophy & SAJA Gulf was declared the first runner up. The second runners up trophy was won by Mangalore Sports Club. MAK player of the tournament for Volleyball was secured by Mubashir K P of Boubyan Stikers.
On the other hand, throwball tournament ended with the final match between Kuwait Konkans B & Dragon Queens.
Kuwait Konkans bagged the winners trophy. 1st Runners up was won by Dragon Queens and Alfa stood up as the second runners. MAK Player of the tournament for throwball was secured by Anusha B P of Team Alfa.
Prize distribution ceremony
Convenor Ramesh Kidiyoor, ex-president Rajesh Mendon, president Poonam Mendon, along with MAK management awarded the trophies and medals to winners, whereas the MAK members gave away the trophies & medals to runners up team and the individual achievers.
A raffle draw was conducted by MAK and the winners are as below
1st Prize: Kiran Kumar.
2nd Prize: Lakshmish K.
3rd Prize: Shikha.
The 10 consolation prize winners were – Ganesh, Raghavendra N, Mr Philip, Madhavan M, Rohan RaJ, Madhav Naik, Shekar Amin, Rohan Raj, Raghavendra N, Daivik.
In their vote of thanks, sports secretary Kavitha Kidiyoor and Purandara Manchi thanked each and every one who were responsible for the success of the tournament, participants, sponsors, organisers, MAK vounteers, MAK management committee & executive committee.
Finally a special thanks was given to the management and staff of ASPIRE Bilingual School for the awesome venue.
