Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury calls for strong action against Pakistan after Pahalgam terror attack

Kolkata, Apr 24: Senior Congress leader and five-time former Lok Sabha member Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has demanded severe action against Pakistan following the terrorist attack in Kashmir's Pahalgam. He urged the Modi government to consider military action, including targeting Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Chowdhury expressed his outrage over the massacre, calling it "unthinkable," and stated, "All parties have already made it clear that the Union government can even take Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir under its control if necessary." He further urged the government to attack Muzaffarabad in PoK.

The Congress leader also acknowledged the government's decision to suspend the Indus Water Treaty (IWT) and efforts to cut diplomatic ties with Pakistan, emphasizing that the nation demands a strong retaliation. "Nothing short of that can satisfy the Indian citizens," he added.

Chowdhury believes that the support from global powers following the Pahalgam attack provides the Union government with the right opportunity to take decisive action. While he stated that he wasn't advising the government, he strongly felt that attacking Pakistan was crucial at this time.

The terror attack on Tuesday killed at least 26 tourists in Baisaran, a small meadow near Pahalgam. Eyewitnesses described gunmen opening fire on innocent civilians, most of whom were tourists. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who cut his Saudi Arabia trip short to return to India, condemned the attack and vowed that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
