Hyderabad, Apr 24: Rohit Sharma rolled back the years with a sublime 70 off 46 balls, steering Mumbai Indians (MI) to a commanding seven-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Match 41 of IPL 2025 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Tuesday.
With this win, MI notched their fourth consecutive triumph, climbing to third in the points table, while SRH continued their downward spiral with another disappointing outing.

Chasing a modest 144, MI’s innings was all about Rohit Sharma’s class and timing. Despite the early loss of Ryan Rickelton to Jaydev Unadkat, Rohit looked in vintage touch. Alongside Will Jacks, he took on Pat Cummins in the third over, collecting 17 runs including two majestic sixes off short balls.
He soon overtook Kieron Pollard’s long-standing record of 258 sixes for MI, bringing up his 259th with an elegant loft over long-off. Rohit’s knock, laced with elegant paddle sweeps, deft flicks, and perfectly timed cuts, showcased his complete mastery of the chase. He brought up his fifty in 35 balls and departed only after the match was well in MI’s grip.
After Rohit's dismissal in the 15th over, Suryakumar Yadav ensured a swift finish with an unbeaten 40 off just 19 balls. His strokeplay blended innovation with power, putting any SRH hopes of a late twist to rest as MI sealed the chase with 26 balls to spare.
Earlier, MI’s bowlers set the stage for the win. Trent Boult (4-26) and Deepak Chahar (2-12) ripped through the SRH top order. Boult struck twice in the powerplay and returned to mop up the tail, while Chahar’s new-ball spell left SRH tottering at 35 for 5 inside nine overs.
Only a resilient 99-run stand between Heinrich Klaasen (71 off 44) and Impact Player Abhinav Manohar (43 off 37) took SRH to a respectable 143/8. Klaasen’s inventive strokeplay, including a reverse-scooped six off Jasprit Bumrah, stood out, but the total never truly challenged MI.
In a bizarre moment, Manohar was dismissed hit-wicket in the final over while trying to fend off a Boult yorker, encapsulating SRH’s rough night.
Brief Scores:
• SRH: 143/8 in 20 overs (Klaasen 71, Manohar 43; Boult 4-26, Chahar 2-12)
• MI: 146/3 in 15.4 overs (Rohit Sharma 70, Suryakumar Yadav 40*; Unadkat 1-25, Ansari 1-36)
Result: Mumbai Indians won by 7 wickets
MI will next face Gujarat Titans, while SRH will be desperate to regroup before their clash with Delhi Capitals.
