Mangaluru, Feb 9: Yen-Refined, Yenepoya Research Centre for Finance and Entreprenurship Development, a centre of the Yenepoya Institute of Arts, Science, Commerce and Management (YIASCM), Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) hosted an insightful research knowledge enhancement programme titled ‘Discover, Connect, innovate: Web of Science and IRINS Explorations’ with Dr K S Ali, chief librarian and nodal officer for IRINS, leading the session on February 3.
The event garnered notable dignitaries, including principal Dr Arun A Bhagwath, vice principal Dr Shareena P, and Dr Niyaz Panakaje, the coordinator of Yen-Refined. Dr Ali's session focused on providing practical guidance to the 40 participating faculty members and research scholars on the effective utilization of web of science, covering various filters and demonstrating its practical applicability in research. The interactive nature of the session allowed for dynamic discussions and engagement.
During the introductory session, the principal Dr Arun A Bhagwath offered a comprehensive overview of international publishers, emphasizing the pivotal role of citations in determining a journal’s H-index and inclusion in prestigious platforms such as Scopus, web of science, and PubMed. Dr Arun A Bhagwath also cautioned against relying on unauthorized information from predatory journals, emphasising the critical importance of credibility in research endeavours.
Dr Niyaz Panakaje set the context for the session by highlighting the interconnectedness of the knowledge enhancement programmes, explaining how each session builds upon the previous one. This particular session, focused on web of science, was positioned as a foundational step, laying the groundwork for upcoming programmes on bibliometric analysis.
The event was co-ordinated with the assistance of Dr Prashanth, associate professor from the department of management, YIASCM, welcoming the attendees and taking over the certificate distribution ceremony, Dr Shakira Irfana, associate professor of YIASCM hosting the session and Bazigha, junior research fellow of YIASCM and Babitha, research intern of YIASCM delivering the vote of thanks and organising the session. The certificates served as a recognition for the active participation and the commitment to continuous learning and research excellence.
The overall flow of the programme, seamlessly transitioning from database usage to bibliometric analysis, provided a holistic approach to research skill development. The success of the programme was evident in the engaged participation and the valuable insights shared by the resource person and other dignitaries, promising a positive impact on the research community at Yenepoya (Deemed to be University).
