Washington, Apr 20: Kerry Kennedy, daughter of late Senator Robert F Kennedy Sr., has strongly criticised the release of documents related to her father’s 1968 assassination including graphic autopsy photos and handwritten notes from the convicted assassin, Sirhan Sirhan.
The files, comprising over 10,000 pages, were made public on Good Friday under an initiative led by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, fulfilling a Trump-era promise of “maximum transparency.” Gabbard had thanked the Kennedy family for their support, but Kerry issued a statement saying, “I did not support this.”
In an emotional post on X, Kerry who was only eight years old when her father was killed described the release as ‘relentless, callous cruelty.’ She said the images force the family to remember RFK “not as we knew him, but through disturbing photos of his final moments.”
She also criticised her brother, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., for backing the release, and linked the move to other Trump-era policies that she said caused suffering, including the treatment of immigrants and the rollback of protections for transgender people.
Kerry ended her message with a childhood photo with her father, tagging both Gabbard and RFK Jr., underscoring her opposition and personal pain.
