Mangaluru, Mar 15: St Aloysius College Higher Primary School held a farewell programme for the outgoing students of class 7 on March 14 in the school auditorium.
The chief guest of the programme was Dr Fuzail Deen, alumnus of the institution. The dignitaries were warmly welcomed by the school band with the general salute. The correspondent Fr Gerald Furtado SJ, headmistress Jositta Noronha, PTA vice president Mangala Rai escorted the chief guest to the auditorium.
The programme began by lighting the lamp by the dignitaries followed by inter-faith prayer service conducted by the students of class 7. Darren Pinto graciously welcomed the gathering.
Representing the outgoing students Sneha, Rathan Bhat and Aniketh Kumar expressed their sentiments during the occasion. Chitra Kini then introduced the chief guest to the audience after which Dr Fuzail Deen gave his message to the audience. Dr Fuzail persuaded his MBBS degree from Gadag Institute of Medical Sciences and is currently working as resident medical officer at Malik Deenar Health Care Centre, Puttur. In his message he stressed on values each student must cultivate. "One to be compassionate and the other to be empathetic. As a student one needs to be curious of learning new things, new ideas," he said. Being a doctor himself he said during the pandemic when he was doing his internship. He recalled his patron saint, St Aloysius Gonzaga, a young saint who was so compassionate towards the needy and served humanity during the plague of the time.
Fr Gerald Furtado SJ in his presidential speech expressed how having come from different religious, lingual, cultural background all are showing oneness. He also explained how our motto, ‘It Shines to enkindle’ is so important. The students were given a message to carry the light received here along with them and spread it around the world. The students swore the oath with candles lit with much pride in their hearts.
The outgoing students were honoured by giving a memento with the quote ‘Believe you can and you will’. The toppers in Diocesan Catechism and Value Education Examination, Alisha Sinol Mascarenhas and Lagan J S were also honoured with certificate and medal each. A beautiful memento prepared by the students of class 7 was handed over to the school by them. A heart touching farewell song and a graceful dance was staged by the juniors. The school choir sang the school anthem. Joshua D’Souza thanked all for the success of the programme.
The programme was compered by the juniors under the guidance of their teachers. The theme of the programme was ‘Go confidently in the direction of your dreams’. A sumptuous fellowship meal was enjoyed by all.
