Mangalore, Feb 19: ‘There are people who live to eat…..’ so goes an adage about foodies. Village Restaurant seems to have gauged this feeling of the people of this port city. Now that the World cup cricket fever is all set to grip Indians, Village Restaurant has responded to give the people a taste of their hospitality with Menu that is sure to set their adrenaline pumping. The restaurant is going to install a giant screen at the Village Green, the open air lawn with lush green area throughout the match period which gets started on 19th February with the grand finals slated slated for April, 2, 2011.
It also has plans to come up with special offers and goodies for the guest apart from a special menu. That would be a real enticer for the foodies who also would like to enjoy sports with gastronomical palates. During the much hyped IPL 20-20 match Village had come up with IPL Specials like Bhajji’s Spin (Mock tail) named after spinner Harbhajan , Yuvi Rays (Cocktail) Dhoom Dham Dhoni Kebab (Chicken), Sachin’s 6’ers (Chicken), Ishant-E-Paneer (veg) and Pathan Ka Tadka (chicken). One can expect a sizzling menu for getting a sporty atmosphere at Village Restaurant during this entire 1 ½ month of cricket world cup starting February 19. .
Being Different
The strong point of Village Restaurant is its unique architecture which is subtle, yet eye catching, ostentatious in a quiet way and awakens the soft feeling of nostalgia of another time and era. Aptly titled ‘Village’, it aims to give a feeling of a good old village kind atmosphere of Mangalore, known for its thatched and tiled roofs, wooden artifacts, mud pots, bamboo groves etc,. At Village Restaurant one can enjoy myriad ambiences under a single roof as the five cottages are distinctly diverse yet cohesive. “When you enter Madhuvan’s Village you enter into a different world . Our customers can enjoy five different milieu within the confines of the restaurant arena. We have taken inspiration from typical Mangalorean villages to give our customers a relaxed and inspiring surrounding when they are enjoying our hospitality”, says its Manager. Village Retreat
It is just like retreating into a an old cottage with all the amenities. The cottage style individual cubicles built in traditional tile roof and baked brick flooring are truly eye catching and arresting. It is partially open on one side to give the customers the comforts of open air. The tile roof ensures that the area is quite cool and in a dimly lit atmosphere it is just ‘calm’ to enjoy a quiet yet bustling lunch or dinner either with family or group of friends. It is a perfect place even for those who would like to have a quiet and unobtrusive time away from the piercing eyes of the public.
Village Cascade
Adjacent to the Retreat is the Village Cascade that resembles a typical village within the Village. The experience of sitting and savoring your favourite delicacies is exciting in itself. Sitting here one can get an airy and environment-friendly experience in a tastefully decorated settings. The spacious thatched roof dining hall embedded with traditional artifacts is a sight to behold. The dining hall is open on all sides for the cool breeze to move in to mingle with the already cool gushing waterfall, which is the highlight of this area. The painted wooden pots, the antique lights, the boat, the tree trunk and other interiors adds to the already delightful atmosphere of Village Cascade, the favourite of every one with a rustic look and calm environ.
Village Courtyard
Courtyard is the typical Indian village house where people used to gather for an evening rendezvous and Village Courtyard recreates such a magical atmosphere for its guests taking a cue from the good old courtyards. This spacious area complete with a rural setting succeeds in giving an earthy feeling. The tile roofing, antique wooden doors, artistically painted and decorated walls with traditional themes and motifs, adds to the aura of this courtyard making it an irresistible place to sit and lay hands on some of the delectable delicacies churned out of the kitchen of Village Restaurant.
Village Greens
An open air lawn with lush green cover and surrounded with decorative bamboo groves, is the fantasy of every one who wants to feel the experience of living life king size outside home. Combining cuisine with innovative surrounding is the highlight of Village Greens as the unencumbered atmosphere allows the gourmets maintain the zeitgeist and enjoy an invigorating feeling in the company of family and friends, not to say even to those who want to enjoy the experience all alone, just for a change. Greens is ideal for those who enjoy dining under the mystique of the night sky and the aura that comes with its vast expanse. With soft music and lighting to go with the mood and the ambience, the greens is the ideal setting for hosting a party for about 100 guests. During the cricket world cup the managements has plans to hoist a giant television screen to help the guests get soaked in cricket fever. Television screens will also be made available at the Cascade and Retreat.
Village AC Family Room
For those foodies who cherish a quiet indoor atmosphere the luxurious A C family room at the Village Restaurant is the right place and relish the multi-cuisine topped with hospitality which is the hallmark of Village Restaurant. It is a no-smoking zone and is the preferred destination at the Village for those who prefer privacy and an intimate bonding with close knit family or friend circle.
There is also children’s’ play area to enable the kids to have fun and frolic.
Delicacies Galore
Village Restaurant is well known for its multi-cuisine food and is certainly a paradise for sea–food lovers, both local, regional and continental. This is evident as one enters the Village Retreat where giant live crabs are displayed for the customers who can grab their own crab and savour the fleshy and juicy crabs prepared in different varieties as per their liking. Basically Village has 5 departments – North Indian, South Indian, Chinese, Thandoor and Continental as far as menu is concerned.
Due to the closeness to the sea, sea food takes pride of place in the restaurant’s menu. The fresh catch from the Arabian Sea, coupled with select estuarine and inland aquatic pickings, gives an opportunity to experiment on a exquisite items well worth the bite!
For starters n the Chinese variety, the Village Chef recommends like Lali Guras and Cheng Du Chicken. In Thandoor the recommendation is for kebab-e-Katta Meetha and Malai Lasoon Tikka. Customers can choose from a wide variety of North India dishes and Turki Lamb Biriyani is the signature dish at the Village.
Most customers at Village have a penchant for South Indian cuisine, famous for its spicy and sharp flavor. It offers lip smacking starters like Uppu Koli, Paddai Chicken and Village Mirchi with typical South Indian and traditional Mangalorean cuisine to choose from. With sea-food dominating the menu one can taste exquisite sea food variety at Madhuvan’s Village Restaurant.
In continental cuisine the Chef’s recommendation is for ice-berg lettuce with tamarind sauce, where customers can spread minced meat and tamarind sauce on lettuce leaves as per their preference and taste and fold and eat it like a pan. “It was introduced a month back and It gives an opportunity for customers to creatively involve in what they eat”, says the Chef. In the continental menu the chefs recommend Blumen Auflauf and Bar-Be-Cue Chicken.
Cocktails and Mocktails
The bar at Madhuvan’s Village restaurant is well stocked with a large collection of top quality spirits ranging from premium Indian made foreign liquors to the well known Scotch Whiskies and imported liquors. For those who want to get a taste of cocktails or mocktails, the expert barman can give a helping hand to quickly fix a decoction or concoction at a lightening speed. For those who want to enjoy the typical experience of having a casual drink sitting across the counter drink, can just grab a stool and sit to enjoy a drink in an informal way, just the way the customers want it to be. .
In cocktails the chefs recommend Caipiroska – a concoction of Vodka, mint, lime and sugar and Bloody Mary, a combination of Vodka, Tomato Juice, Tabasco, Lime and Worcester. In mocktail they recommend Village Special - Vanilla, Strawberry, milk, Granadine Syrup and fresh fruits and Sky blue – with Litchi, milk, blue Curacao, litchi crush, Pistachio ice cream.
“We give top priority to the cuisine and often taken take feedback from our customers to improvise or to mould according to the changes where it is feasible”, says the Manager of the restaurant.

There is ample car parking and valet parking facility at the Village Restaurant for the convenience of the customers.
