Mangalore, Feb 10: The Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy urged Konkans to inform enumerators, who will visit families across Karnataka to record the census from Wednesday February 9 to Monday February 28, that their mother tongue is Konkani.
The Academy emphasized that Konkani is already included in the 8th schedule of the Indian constitution and said that there are 42 communities in Karnataka whose mother tongue is Konkani.
Karnataka Beary Sahithya Academy president M B Abdul Rehman in a similar media release urged the Beary community to inform census enumerators of their mother tongue.
It will enable the Beary community under minorities to avail state benefits besides sustaining the mother tongue.
