Mangaluru, Oct 30: St Agnes PU College commemorated the Girl Child Day on Wednesday, October 30, to celebrate the resilience, strength and spirit of the girl child. Amline D’Souza, sub-registrar, state Department of Stamps & Registration, was the guest of honor.
Poorvi Prakash welcomed the chief guest and gathering with meaningful words. The programme began with a prayer song followed by awarding of scholarships to 25 deserving students under the aegis of Abhaya Forum headed by Dr Tressie Menezes. The chief guest spoke about being resilient and strong, withstanding difficulties to be able to make a mark in this "male-centric world." She concluded by telling the gathering to be prepared to go out into the world from a sheltered atmosphere and shatter the glass ceiling of expectations.
The students of II CSBA and II SEBA ‘B’ highlighted the significance of the day through their performances. A beautiful dance celebrating the joy of being a girl was followed by a medley where the singers crooned to popular numbers honoring the spirit of womanhood. The cultural programme concluded with a hard-hitting dance drama highlighting the atrocities suffered by women and the need of the hour to take decisive action.
Velora D’Souza proposed a vote of thanks. Viola and Sadiya compered the programme. Lovina Aranha and Mathew Antony were the coordinators of the programme.
