Mangaluru: Deepavali celebration held at St Aloysius ITI

Mangaluru, Oct 29: Deepavali was celebrated in St Aloysius ITI on October 30 at 3 pm in the college auditorium. The programme commenced with a prayer song which was led by MMV second year students.

The programme was presided over by Fr John D'Souza SJ, director of the institution. Dr Manjula Shetty, vice principal, Govt PU College, Montepadavu, Bantwal was the chief guest.

Roshan D'Souza, principal, Alwyn Menezes, vice principal, Noel Lobo and Wilson N, training officers, Robin Vas, convener of the programme and Darshan S, president, student council were present on the dais.

The programme was inaugurated with the lighting of Diwali Diyas by the dignitaries. Robin Vas, convener of the programme escorted the dignitaries to the dais.

Akash Shetty, student of MMV second year welcomed the gathering. Viraj Shetty, student of MMV second year, spoke a few words about Deepavali celebration and the significance of Deepavali festival.

The chief guest addressed the gathering and said, "Deepavali, or Diwali, is the Festival of lights which is celebrated for three days. Light chases away darkness and lights our path. Light is a symbol of knowledge. During Deepavali, homes are cleaned, decorated with lanterns or Diyas. Let’s all celebrate Deepavali with the spirit of joy and love for our fellow beings”.

A song was rendered by the students to spread the joy of Deepavali. On the occasion of Deepavali lantern, group singing and Rangoli competitions were organised. The prizes of the competitions were announced.

The results of the competition are as follows.

Lantern Competition

Ist Prize – Electrician 1st year
IInd Prize – MMV 2nd year
IIIrd Prize – Electrician 2nd year

Group singing Competition

Ist Prize – MRAC 2nd year and MMV 1st year
IInd Prize – Electronics Mechanic 1st year
IIIrd Prize – MMV 2nd year

Rangoli Competition

Ist Prize – Fashion Design 2nd year
IInd Prize – MRAC 2nd year
IIIrd Prize – Electronics Mechanic 2nd year

In his presidential, address Fr John D'Souza SJ said, “Deepavali helps us light up our hearts with kindness, compassion, and gratitude. Let us be the light that drives away ignorance, hatred, and division. Let us come together in the spirit of unity and spread love and joy, not only in our homes but throughout our communities and beyond.”

Mohammed Ashwan, student of MMV second year proposed a vote of thanks. The programme was compered by Akvil, student of MMV second year.
