Panaji, Dec 24: Shantaram Naik MP has appealed to the government to allocate special funds to develop infrastructure, including school buildings, toilets and drinking water facilitates, in the primary and secondary schools in the state. He urged that the provision be made in the forthcoming annual budget of the government for the purpose.
Naik who was speaking as a chief guest at the annual social gathering of Smt Hirabai Talaulicar High School and Madhavrao Talaulckar Higher Secondary School at Sacorda further said that in most of the schools students have no proper facilities of clean toilets and of safe drinking water.
Naik said that the interest of the state lies in developing the infrastructure of the existing educational institutions and, in giving them additional land in deserving cases but, in no case, the managements of educational institutions functioning in other states, who have become land sharks in the country, should be allotted any land in Goa.
Naik said these institutions have turned into commercial factories, which are nowhere near social goals of education. He said that when an era has dawn where some school managements in the country are proposing to install most modern facilities in their premises, and that some schools in the country are on the verge of becoming five star hotels, it will not be fair and just if government schools and aided schools do not have basic facilities in their premises.
Naik said as per statistics about 74% of the schools in the country have their own buildings while the rest are housed in rented or free premises.
Mrs Yogita Naik praised the efforts of Sacordem Education Society in running various educational institutions in the village.
