Udupi, Nov 24: The BaleKudru Sri Math Protection Committee has called for government intervention to prevent the appointment of an unqualified successor to the math, allegedly bypassing traditions and judicial directives.
Addressing a press meet on November 23, honorary president Shivaram Udupa expressed concerns over attempts by certain individuals to hastily appoint a successor during the ill health of the current head, Sri Narasimhashrama Swamiji. He alleged that a secret meeting was held in Bengaluru on November 16 to name a successor without the involvement of Shringeri Sharada Peetha, which traditionally oversees such appointments.
“The Shringeri Sharada Peetham has reportedly clarified that it has not approved any such appointment. Appointments to BaleKudru Sri Math have historically been guided by Shringeri, including that of the current head, Sri Narasimhashrama Swamiji. The committee condemns false claims of Shringeri’s involvement being spread to mislead devotees,” Shivaram said.
The committee also pointed out that despite a court injunction against appointing a successor, certain parties proceeded in violation of the order. They allegedly misled spiritual leaders, including Sri Swayamprakasha Sachidananda Saraswati Swamiji of Hariharapura Sri Adishankaracharya Sharada Lakshminarasimha Peetha and Jayendrapuri Swamiji of Kailasa Ashrama Mahasansthana, to endorse the appointment. The committee called this a disrespect to the judiciary and a severe breach of math traditions.
The press meet highlighted the committee’s opposition to the proposed successor, citing his lack of knowledge about the math’s traditions.
President Rishikesh Bairy, members Manjunath, Gopal Krishna Udupi, Suresh Adiga, and others were present at the press conference.
