Dubai, Aug 18 (IANS/WAM): Shops selling vegetables, meat and fish in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were paid surprise visits by food inspectors, and anyone who failed to comply with preset government prices and sales terms was heavily fined.
The ministry of economy's consumer protection department fined over 10 major outlets across Sharjah Tuesday for not putting price tags on food items and using improper weights.
The consumer protection department asked traders to commit to stable prices so as not to affect the common people during the holy month.
Traders using old weight measurement equipment were asked to exchange them for new and clean tools, in order to ensure weight accuracy and hygiene.
