Saudi Arabia: Three Expats held Over Riyadh Robbery

RIYADH, Jul 25 (Arab News): Three expatriates who stole SR200,000 in cash and mobile phones worth SR80,000 from an Egyptian trader have been arrested, Riyadh police revealed on Saturday.

The trader said he was robbed on his way to his shop in his vehicle. Police took eyewitness testimonies, which led to three suspects who were then observed living a “luxury life,” said one of the officers involved in the arrest of the men.

“When we took the suspects in for questioning to find out the source of their income for their luxurious lifestyle, they confessed to the robbery,” the officer said.

The men, whose nationalities were not disclosed, were arrested separately. They were identified by the victim in a police lineup.

Police said the three foreigners lived and moved around separately but met up for carrying out their crimes. They said investigations are continuing to ascertain whether these men were involved in other crimes.

In another incident, the police in Riyadh’s Suweidi district arrested three youths in their 20s who were engaged in stealing spare tires from the boots of new vehicles. Police said they stopped the trio who were traveling in a 2010 Toyota vehicle with four new tires in the trunk.

The men allegedly confessed to stealing the tires.
