Mangaluru, Nov 11: 'Music gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything' -Plato
St Aloysius Pre-University College, here, on November 7 organized a virtual 'Musical Day-2020'. It was an opportunity for young students to discover their talents and achieve greater things in the field of music.
Three rounds of auditions, as well as the main event, were conducted online. 64 students were selected for the final Musical Day performance based on technical skill, voice quality, musical presentation and stage presence. As a part of the musical day, the Battle of Bands (e-Band competition) was also conducted.
The final event was a video rendition of both formal and informal programmes. During the formal ceremony, the principal, Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ congratulated the students and staff conveners, Arun Vincent D’Souza, Santhosh Dilraj Veigas and Manasa K for organizing the annual Musical Day. He described the importance of music and song in our lives. He expressed that music is nurturing, comforting, healing and helps express feelings and understands hearts. He also felt that songs teach us about life and the meanings of lyrics are elevated when set to music.
The programme commenced with an invocation followed by a welcome dance. Vandana Bhaskar, the student council president gave an introduction to the Musical Day. Blanche Rodrigues, the secretary of the students council, proposed the vote of thanks and Alwin D’Souza of II PU compered the programme. The winners of the singing and music competitions conducted by various music associations were also announced.
The video performances of solo, duet and group events finalists and the ‘Battle of the Bands’ were played as part of the informal event. Band Aether was the winner and Band Oblivion, the Runner-up. Vaishnavi and Viona D’Souza of II PU, compered the informal programme.
