Supreme Court protects education of 250 students amid campus relocation

New Delhi, Apr 23: The Supreme Court on Wednesday invoked Article 142 of the Constitution to protect the education of 250 students affected by the relocation of their hotel management institute's campus in Mangaluru.

A bench of Justices B R Gavai and Augustine George Masih exercised its extraordinary powers to prevent the students' academic careers from being jeopardized, as the institute faced difficulties in vacating its current premises before the new campus was ready.

The court allowed the institute to temporarily relocate its operations while a new campus was being developed. The institute had a deadline of April 30, to vacate its current property, but due to delays in constructing the new campus, a temporary location was proposed.

The bench directed the AICTE and Mangalore University to permit the shift to the temporary location and continue the institute's operations there for up to two years. The institute was ordered to ensure that the new location meets all regulatory requirements and to complete the transition by April 30, 2027.
