Mangaluru, Sep 4: Shakthi Group of Institutions made it habitual to felicitate commendable retired teachers of the district for their stupendous contribution to the field of education as well as their societal service. To venerate the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan on September 5, Dr C N Shankar Rao, a retired lecturer in Sociology of Canara PU College and a notable writer is the right choice along with his spouse Dr Saraswathi Rao, a retired lecturer in Physics from St Agnes (Autonomous) College.
Dr C N Shankar hails from an austere family in Tirthahalli taluk of Shivamogga district. He did his schooling in the Chakkodabail village and went to Bengaluru for his graduation and post-graduation. Shakthi Education Trust is felicitating him for his extraordinary contributions to the field of education of about 48 years. His abundant knowledge and mastery over Sociology have led him to author more than 115 books in Sociology both in Kannada and English for PU course, degree classes of various universities (such as Karnataka, Kuvempu, Gulbarga, Davanagere and Rani Chennamma University). Most of his reference books are recommended by all the universities of Karnataka. He created a revolution by writing ‘Samaja Shastrada Kiru Vishwakosha’ – mini encyclopedia of Sociology in Kannada in two volumes of 3000 pages, which is the first of its kind in the vernacular languages of India, perhaps his masterpiece.
He remained the student union secretary during his college days, served as a treasurer at Karnataka Sociological Association and the president of ABVP Karnataka as well as president of the VSS Trust Mangaluru branch.
He is the district president of the Akhila Bharatiya Sahitya Parishad. He was conferred upon with the Doctorate of Literature from the Mangalore University in 2019.
The felicitation programme will be encompassed by the presence of Dr K C Naik, the administrator, Ramesh K, chief advisor, Prakyath Rai, institute development officer, Prabhakara G S, principal of Shakthi PU College, Vidya Kamath, principal of Shakthi Residential School, Neema Saxena, co-ordinator, Shree Gopalakrishna Pre-school and all the staff while the students will witness the event live on 'Shakthi Live' Facebook page, said the chief advisor, Ramesh K.
