Bengaluru, Jun 30: The government and officials have been doing everything within their command to regulate the spread of coronavirus. But the number of infected persons has been on the rise and unless something drastic happens, the figure is likely to cross 50,000 cases by the end of July, the experts have warned. As per the current indications, people may have to live with the virus for six more months and therefore the government has undertaken the process of mentally preparing the people to carefully deal with the situation and be ready for a regime of protracted restrictions.
The increasing number of cases bear testimony to the fact that people including people's representatives have not cared to adhere to even minimum precautions like wearing of masks, washing of hands, using sanitisers and maintaining social distance etc. Unless people sit up, take notice and act, the disease may be found at the doorsteps of the people soon. The experts have warned that self-control and sticking to rules are the two things which provide a glimmer of hope that the situation can be handled and improved.
After the first case was reported in Karnataka on March 9, it crossed 1,000 mark on May 15 and 2,000 by May 24. Within a month thereafter, 10,000 new cases have been reported and the number of infected people has crossed 13,000.
It is noted with concern that shops, establishments, liquor shops, industries, offices, hotels, malls, buses etc have not been strictly adhering to rules. This has worsened the situation.
No information to infected patients
Private laboratories which conduct corona tests have now been ordered to update the result to ICMR and BBMP portals and barred from informing the result to patients. The BBMP officials have to inform the patients and decide whether to admit the person concerned into hospital or refer him to corona care centres. Henceforth, the laboratories cannot convey information about the result directly to the patients, the government has clarified.
Minister Ashok, to a question on lockdown, asked people to wait till July 7 before a decision on whether to impose lockdown again is taken. He said that the chief minister will take decisions on some important changes and that tougher measures would be announced thereafter.
As per the door-to-door survey conducted by health workers and ASHA workers, it has been calculated that 64.16 lac people in the state are facing increased danger from coronavirus. As many as 16.14 lac elders already suffering from various health problems, 61.5 lac senior citizens, 4.89 lac pregnant women, 1.6 lac people suffering from cold, fever and cough, and 29,705 persons suffering from ILI infection, face grave risk unless they take all precautions.
