Udupi, Feb 21: Understanding the methods of treating and preventing heart attacks, cancer, and other illnesses is extremely important, said Dr Sushil Jathanna, director of CSI Lombard Memorial (mission) Hospital, Udupi.
He was speaking at the inauguration of a large-scale free health check-up camp and women’s health screening programme held at Lions Bhavan on Friday, February 21. The event was jointly organized by the Indian Red Cross Society’s state and Udupi district branches, Yenepoya Medical College, Deralakatte, Mangaluru, CSI Lombard Memorial Hospital, Udupi, Lions Club Udupi and Udupi Midtown, and the Udupi Senior Citizens' Association. Additionally, free hearing aid were distributed to selected underprivileged beneficiaries during the programme.















Emphasizing the importance of health in life, Dr Sushil Jathanna urged people to avoid unhealthy habits. He pointed out that in recent times, out of every four people, one suffers from high blood pressure, while five out of ten individuals are affected by diabetes. It is crucial to take preventive measures, and medical professionals should provide appropriate treatment, he added.
On this occasion, free hearing aid were distributed to selected underprivileged beneficiaries. Dr Vanitha, a medical officer at Yenepoya Hospital, educated medical students about how cancer spreads and its treatment methods.
The event was attended by Lions Club Udupi president Lion Louis Lobo, Udupi Senior Citizens' Association president Nagraj Rao, Indian Red Cross Karnataka State Branch administrative board member Lion V G Shetty, Yenepoya Hospital medical officer Dr Vanitha, Indian Red Cross Udupi honorary treasurer Ramadevi, and vice chairman Ashok Kumar.
Basrur Rajeev Shetty, president of the Indian Red Cross Society, Udupi, welcomed the dignitaries, while Indian Red Cross Society secretary Gananath Ekkaru compered the event and delivered the vote of thanks.
