Hassan, May 8: A newly-married couple had left home with the stated objective of taking a jolly ride around nearby places. However, a few hours later, tragically, their lifeless bodies were found from River Hemavathi.
The husband-wife duo who lost their lives in this fashion were Arthesh (27) from Murahalli village in Belur taluk in the district and Kritika (23) from Hennali village. They were married two months back. Arthesh was employed in a private company at Bengaluru. Because of lockdown, he had returned to his village in Murahalli a few days ago.
On Wednesday, the couple came to Kritika's native place, Hennali. On Thursday evening, the couple left home to travel around the place on the motorbike. But, they did not return for long. The family members tried to call them over the phone but both their mobile phones were found to have been switched off. The family members then grew worried and began searching for them frantically.
During the search, they saw the motorbike that was parked on the road near River Hemavathi. During a further search, the body of Kritika was found to have got entangled inside a net spread by fishermen. Sometime later, Arthesh's body was also found. While suspicions arose about the circumstances under which they would have died, many feel that they would have slipped and lost their lives when trying to capture selfie on the mobile phone.
Sakleshpur police visited the spot and undertook scrutiny. A case was registered in Sakleshpur town police station. The environment in both the villages and surrounding areas turned gloomy at this turn of events and the people were seen grieving inconsolably.
