Mangaluru, May 7: "Chief minister (CM) B S Yediyurappa has given special package to agriculturists, flower growers, weavers, barbers and other people who are backward under social justice scheme. I congratulate him for the same. Surprisingly, Siddaramaiah, who was the former CM and who had presented the budget several times, has criticized CM Yediyurappa," said MP and state BJP president Nalin Kumar Kateel.
Nalin further said, "Siddaramaiah, who was the former CM as well as the finance minister of the state, does not have the common knowledge of how much a farmer, who grows flowers, spends for one acre of produce. Siddaramaiah has stated that a farmer who grows flowers spends Rs 50 lac per acre. I feel like Rahul Gandhi wanted to produce gold from potato, Siddaramaiah has done the work of producing gold from flower. Siddaramaiah has done cheap politics at a time when the state and country is going through difficult times due to the coronavirus pandemic.
"I feel, as a responsible and experienced person, Siddaramaiah should have welcomed the schemes announced by CM Yediyurappa. Instead, he has tried to play politics in this. Congress is utilising this difficult time to further their political interest rather than looking at the interests of farmers and other backward class people. It is not right on the part of senior person like Siddaramaiah to criticise the schemes announced by Yediyurappa.
"I want to ask Siddaramaiah, "When you were in power in the state, hundreds of farmers committed suicide. Why you did not announce any schemes for agriculturists during that time? Why you did not provide any compensation to their families? During you tenure tens of youths were killed throughout the state. You have not given compensation to even one deceased person. The schemes offered by Yediyurappa to the farmers and other backward class people of society are one of the best in the history of Karnataka. Instead of welcoming them, you are playing cheap politics. So I request Siddaramaiah to make a study as to where the flower farmer spends Rs 50 lac per acre and think before speaking rather than making politics during this difficult time and try to wipe the tears from the eyes of the people of this state,” he said.
